Top 25 Progressive House Tracks of All Time

It is a very vague claim to come up with a chart list of only 25 tracks and songs saying they are the greatest Top 25 Progressive House Tracks of All Time. So I asked myself the question: How do you want to sound out the best of the best hits that burned down thousands of dance floors?

There is one musical parameter I am astonished by. Over the last 25 years there emerged many tracks where the producer could not overtake his or her own number one chart position. OK, you can argue the producers never got better than this one production.

But maybe it was the track itself famed with sheer brilliants!?

Now, welcome to this chart list of the 25 Best Progressive House Tracks of all time plus a bonus track at the end, in no particular order.

B.B.E. – Seven Days And One Week (1996, Triangle)

Produced by the trio Bruno Sanchioni, Bruno Quartier and Emmanuel Top hits the club scene heavily heavenly and the UK Dance Chart No.1 in 1996.

[State Of] Grace – Not Over Yet (Perfecto Mix) (1995, Perfecto London)

The DJs Paul Oakenfold and Steve Osborne plus jazz singer Dominique Atkins formed Grace. The track was originally released in 1993 under State Of Grace but re-recorded in brought to the scene in 1995 again. It hit the UK Dance Chart #6.

Signum feat. Scott Mac – Coming On Strong (1999, Jinx)

Signum are the two Dutch producers Pascal Minnaard and Ronald Hagen. Both were hugely successful with a series of dance and trance track. But This one will haunt them forever.

Three Drives (on Vinyl) – Greece 2000 (1997, Massive Drive Records)

Three Drive was formerly Three Drives on a Vinyl. Ironically, they were founded by a Dutch progressive trance duo Erik de Koning and Ton van Empel. They debut EP Greece 2ooo beat the UK Charts #44.

Sash! – Encore Une Fois (Future Breeze Remix) (1997, Le Petit Prince)

SASH! Is the German DJ and producer team of Sascha Lappessen, Ralf Kappmeier and Thomas “Alisson” Lüdke. In total they sold more than 22 million albums worldwide and earned a lot of awards. “Encore une fois” reached the UK Singles Chart at #2.

Faithless – Insomnia (1995, Cheeky)

Is there anybody who does not know Faithless? The fabulous trio of Maxi Jazz, Sister Bliss and Rollo? Their first album “Reverence” contained not only “Insomnia” but also another highly rated dance track “Salva Mea”. The album reached No.29 in the UK Album charts.

Fragma – Toca Me (1999, Positiva)

Fragma are a German vocal trance producer group founded by brothers Dirk and Marco Duderstadt in 1998. They had a lot of commercial success around the world. “Toca Me” was their debut track and was released without vocal at first.

Nikolai – Ready To Flow (1993, Le Petit Prince)

This classic was produced by German Trance producer Nikolai Kaeßmann. The still charming track is somewhat of an hidden anthem among clubbers in Dublin, Ireland!?

Da Hool – Meet Her At The Loveparade (1997, B-Sides)

Da Hool = Frank Tomiczek. The magical producer from Bottrop. Before this defining anthem he released several successful “Happy” Hardcore Acid House tracks and was a respected DJ. But “Met Her at The Loveparade” made him immortal. The track hit all the charts around Europe mostly Top Ten.

Olive – You Are Not Alone (1996, RCA)

This lovely song was written by Tim Kellett and Robin Taylor-Firth in 1996. In 1997 it reached #1 in the UK Single Charts.

Team Deep – Morninglight (1996, Premium)

Team Deep were a duo formed by Mischa van der Heiden (better known for DJ Misjah) and Pieter W. Bervoets both Dutch techno and trance producer. It was the number one release at Premium and hit the underground progressive dance scene European-wide.

Lustral – Everytime (Nalin & Kane Remix) (1997, Hooj Choons)

The production duo Ricky Simmons and Steve Jones are behind Lustral. They are also known as The Space Brothers or Chakra. With the help of vocalist Tracy Ackerman and remixers Nalin & Kane they landed a massive club hit.

Jens – Loops And Things (1993, Superstition)

Jens are two; Gerret Frerichs and Jens Mahlstedt. The duo released the famous Fruity Loops already in 1993. The track is still to date a great pleasure.

Rank 1 – Airwave (Dutch Force Remix) (2000, Free For All)

The Dutch electronic dance music DJ and producer duo founded by Piet Bervoets and Benno De Goeij in the year 1999. Their debut Airwave has blown thousands of clubbers away and still cuts nicely through todays air.

Energy 52 – Cafe Del Mar (Three ‘n’ One Remix) (1999, Eye Q Records)

The German Trance project founded by Paul Schmitz-Moormann and Harald Blüchel from Hamburg. The song was voted #1 by BBC Radio One listeners and tops Pete Tong’s top twenty dance tracks from the last 20 years.

OT Quartet – Hold That Sucker Down (Builds like A Skyscraper Mix) (1994, Cheeky)

The massive song was produced by Rob Dougan and Roland Armstrong, who went on the year after and founde Faithless. The vocals came from Colette Van Sertima. One of the most epic dance tracks of all time.

Gat Decor – Passion (Naked Remix) (1992, Effective Records)

This is one of the best-known songs of the early progressive house genre. Written by the British DJs and producers Simon Slater, Laurence Nelson-Boudville and Simon Hanson in the heart of London, Soho.

It entered the UK Dance Charts and peaked at #29. The song still enters the worldwide progressive house charts year on year again and counts among the most influential electronic songs of all time.

Nudge & Shouter – Blue Lagoon (Bervoets & De Goeij Remix) (1999, Push Up Records)

The trio Hartwig Müller, Ronny Bibow and Sven Wilken released this underground dance star in 1999. There is not much more to say as the track was one of their rare releases. It deserves a place among the other songs because it is just awesome.

808 State – Pacific State (1989, ZTT)

A song coming from the early Rave generation. Within the electronic scene it is one the biggest classics. Produced by the Manchester trio Martin Price, Graham Massey and Mancunian Gerald Simpson alias A Guy Called Gerald in 1989, it entered the national charts in the Top 10.

Lambda – Hold On Tight (1996, RED)

The awesome percussion progressive track was released via RED Records in 1996. It made it around the world and was famously remixed by Nalin & Kane a year later.

Chicane feat. Maire Brennan – Saltwater (1999, Xtravaganza)

The song was produced by Chicane with the vocals from the Irish singer Máire Brennan. There are samples taken from a 80’s hit “Theme from Harry’s Game”.

The release was 1999 and hit the UK and European charts. Since it has been remixed many times and is played in commercials and promotions often.

Crescendo – Are You Out There (1995, FFRR)

Crescendo is an electronic project founded by Jonathan David Crosse alias Jon X from London. He also co-wrote and produced 3 No.1 UK dance hits in 1995-2000 on Pete Tong’s FFRR Records as well as Judge Jules’s Serious Records and Positiva.

Trancesetters – the Search (1995, Touche´)

The Dutch duo Alex Dijksterhuis and Gaston Steenkist formed Trancesetters in the early 90’s. Among other great tracks like Roaches the delivered fabulous with “the Search”. The track is still played by DJ around the world and was a big club hit when it came out.

Layo & Bushwacka! – Love Story (2002, End Recordings)

Layo & Bushwacka! are the British DJs Layo Paskin and Matthew Benjamin from the famous night club “The End” in London. The track entered the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play #4 in 2002 and UK Singles Chart #8 in 2003.

K5 – Passion (1996, Formaldehyd)

Producer of this seet Trip Hop track was Kevin Shiver with the great vocalist Tammy Wright. The records was released in 1995 in their hometown Orlando first. In 1996 it it the club charts massivly across the world.

Bonus Track

Robert Miles – Children (Dream Version) (1995, Platipus)

Robert Miles, who died (R.I.P.) in 2017, left us his treasure “Children”. It was one part of Joe Vannelli’s DBX Label but did not chart. But when played in a night club in Miami Simon Berry from Platipus.

He released the records later the year at his label. The song was the most successful single of Miles’ career. It reached number one in more than 12 countries.
